Sport Premium grant

What is the Sport Premium grant?

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150m for physical education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision.

This funding is ring-fenced to be used for sport-specific areas, to make an impact in PE and sport in schools.

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

Funding received: Wainwright Academy received £9,490 to fund improvements to the provision of PE and sport. This is for the benefit of primary aged pupils, in the 2016 to 2017 academic year, to give them the opportunity to develop a healthy lifestyle.

How will we use the Sport Premium grant at Wainwright Primary Academy in 2017-18?

We will use the funding in the following areas:

  • Play leaders
  • Playground equipment
  • Playground markings
  • Membership of local schools partnership
  • Sports equipment
  • Staff to lead after school and lunchtime clubs

The remaining amount will be used to fund a part time, specialist PE coach to develop staff knowledge and the quality of PE lessons.

  • Pupils more engaged with sports and healthy lifestyles
