I have always lived in Nottinghamshire, and moved to the Mansfield area around 17 years ago, to be closer to work.

Until recently, I worked as a teacher in a local primary school, teaching in key stages one and two, where I also carried out the role of special educational needs coordinator (SENCO). I worked there for 16 happy years, and also became the Family SENCO for the Queen Elizabeth’s Family of Schools.

It was through the Family SENCO role that I first became involved with Wainwright Primary Academy. I supported the school on an advisory basis, and spent time in school working alongside the SENCO, teaching staff, and the leadership team.  It was spending lots of time at Wainwright which led to me becoming a member of the governing body.

Two years ago, I gave up classroom based teaching to take up a new role, as a specialist teacher for Nottinghamshire County Council’s Schools and Families Specialist Services, supporting staff in schools across the county to meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs.

I like to spend my weekends pottering in the garden, spending time with my wonderful nieces and nephew, or planning my next European city break!
